Meet the Volunteer Palm Springs Board of Directors
DAVID CARDEN, JR.
Founder/Chair
For over 50+ years David has devoted himself to community service and has a passion for leaving his mark as someone who ‘gets things done,’ helping to make a difference and inspiring others to volunteer. As a Realtor for over 40+ years, David is one of Palm Springs’ most avid unofficial ‘cheerleaders.’ When asked about one of his greatest satisfactions as the head of the organization David confirmed: “The most valuable asset we have in our lives is time – and how we spend it. My hope is to continue to provide an avenue for volunteerism in our community for everyone. VPS is that opportunity.”
SCOTT TURNER
Vice Chair
Scott serves as a board member for Volunteer Palm Springs; he has been a board member since 2019. As a career and executive coach, Scott's passion for helping others extends to his volunteer work as well, where he devotes countless hours to nonprofit organizations that focus on providing career services to ethnically diverse populations. Scott is an avid cyclist in and around Palm Springs and recognizes the importance of educating our Palm Springs residents on the importance and awareness of public safety, which is the mission of Volunteer Palm Springs.
DALE MAGUIRE
Treasurer
Dale has been involved in community service for over 30 years, and as a former teacher and educator, he understands the importance of volunteerism in helping to make a difference in our community. He is active in local politics and supports many environmental and conservation-oriented organizations. As a realtor he understands that a healthy community environment depends on the partnerships between community organizations, residents and city officials. His dedication to serving others makes him a valuable member of the Board since 2010, previously serving as Treasurer.
JUDY MASON
At Large
Judy brings a Canadian perspective to our Board. With summers in Alberta and winters in the Coachella Valley, she qualifies as a ‘snowbird.’ Judy spent most of her professional career working for the Canadian government. She took an early retirement in 2000 and started a small management consulting company, specializing in group facilitation, team building, strategic-planning and various forms of writing. Most of her clients were local non-profit agencies. She volunteers extensively in both Canada and Palm Springs and loves the idea of “voluntourism”. She has been a part of VPS since its inception in 2010
NIKKI STONE
Secretary
Originally hailing from Hamilton Ontario, Canada, Nikki brings a wealth of experience to Volunteer Palm Springs. In her former life she was the volunteer coordinator for the 1st Shelter for Battered Women in the San Fernando Valley. She also was the Director of Volunteers for Desert Regional Medical center in Palm Springs for 20 years. In her second act, she has volunteered with many non-profits in the Coachella Valley, The Ophelia Project, Planned Parenthood, and local city council races to name a few. Nikki. Nikki loves to read, cook dinner for friends and to volunteer for VPS.
